Merry Christmas From Afghanistan

A little Christmas cheer from the front lines.

Seasons greetings from CAAT 1, WPNS CO, 2nd Battalion 2nd Marines. (filmed on site at Alpha 1)

“Merry Christmas From Afghanistan”

Merry Christmas from Afghanistan, oh man, it’s that time of year,
and the birth of Jesus doesn’t seem to please the terrorists down here;
I’d like to take a moment for you folks at home to make it clear;
Merry Christmas from the Eastern Hemisphere.

Merry Christmas from Afghanistan, way back in the USA,
You’ve got mistletoe and falling snow, we’ve got sandstorms and grenades
But what the hell, it’s just as well we celebrate it anyway,
Merry Christmas from 5,000 miles away.

And I remember many Decembers, sitting ’round that tree,
And now I’m in an outer cordon sitting ’round an IED,
I’ve traded yams and roasted ham for a chicken noodle MRE,
Merry Christmas from out here in the middle east.

So merry Christmas from Afghanistan, from our AO to yours,
I’ll be watching illegal DVDs and defecating out of doors,
Put my pedal to the metal man, I’ll settle for that medal of honor when I when the war,
Single-handedly from my armored drivers door.

Yuletide salutations from our vacation in the sand,
from this E-3 Lance Coolie and up the whole chain of command
Between Al Qaeda, Al Jazeera, Mujahadeen, and the Taliban,
It’s a very merry Christmas in Afghanistan.

From south Montana, to northwest Indiana, to the shores of North Caroline,
From NYC to LA’s beaches and down the Mason-Dixon Line,
It’s that season where we’re freezing, but all in all, we’re doing fine,
So merry Christmas from Afghanistan tonight.
It’s that season where we’re freezing, but all in all, we’re doing fine,
So Merry Christmas down the Final Protection Line!

Attack on Pearl Harbor, December 7th, 1941 – “A day that will live in infamy”

Here’s an old video (by the Japanese) on the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941

It’s the 69th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. There were 2,350 people killed and the attack drew the United States into World War II. Our WWII Veterans are quickly dying away, one way to read their stories is to go to the Pearl Harbor Survivors Project.

Al Bodenlos’ Story:

Early in the morning on December 7th at the Army-Navy YMCA, loudspeakers ordered all military personnel to report to their organizations immediately. Al dutifully caught the Schofield Shuttle. When the bus neared the shores of Pearl Harbor, all hell was breaking loose. M.P.’s stopped and stormed the shuttle and ordered everyone to get off and to take cover immediately. Al then Iearned that the harbor was under attack and the Japanese pilots were shooting anything moving. Al recalls that the planes were flying so low that you could see the faces of the pilots. They shot at but missed the shuttle by inches, bullets whizzed all around and everyone dove for safety into a nearby ditch. Al was scared and witnessed the horror of the tragedy developing in the harbor. He vividly remembers the USS Arizona blowing up and the USS Oklahoma rolling over as he helplessly watched other ships sink to the harbor floor.

The attack appeared to end, so everyone re-boarded the shuttle and proceeded to Schofield Barracs. The second wave started when Al arrived at his unit. The 804th was already deployed at all five military airfields. Al was also the Company courier, and he delivered messages from the command post by motorcycle to the airfields for two full days with no rest. He spent the rest of the war island hopping, building and repairing airfields captured from the Japanese. His faith pulled him through.

If you have a relative or friend who is a survivor of Pearl Harbor get their story added to this database for future generations and history.

Finally a school fires a teacher but it’s for a Song! An anti-Obama song!

Yes, my county – Williamson County fired a teacher for a song he wrote and sang. Bryan Glover, a teacher and football coach wrote an anti-Obama song and then email the link to the song using his personal email while on his personal off school time. It doesn’t say that in the Real Clear Politics article but News Channel5 does reference this information.

Coach Says He Was Fired Because of Conservative Song

The song is called, “When You’re Holding A Hammer, Everything Looks Like A Nail.” It is a reference to Glover’s frustrations with the current administration and President Obama. Glover co-wrote the tune with a parent on the Grassland Middle School football team. He never thought sending it out to friends, family and player’s parents could put the hammer on the nail of his job with the school.

“Here we are a week before the season starts and they call and say I am no longer with the staff. It’s devastating for me,” said Glover.

It all stems from an email Glover sent through his personal Yahoo account.

“I sent it 99 percent of the people in my inbox– all the way from my mom to people I haven’t spoken to in years,” said Glover.

But the email, with a link to his new song, went out to a hand full of parents of kids on the Grassland Football Team.

Within hours, parents called the school to complain of the politically charged lyrics and Glover said the principal at Grassland Middle School told the head football coach to release Glover from his position with the team.

Isn’t it funny that a school will finally fire a teacher at the snap of it’s fingers and it’s for a song a parent thinks is offensive yet there isn’t one 4 letter word used in the song. This isn’t a teacher who is having an affair with an underage student, this isn’t a teacher on drugs or alcohol, this isn’t a poor performance firing but a firing for a political song. I wonder if this would’ve happened if it was an anti-Bush song? Just saying…..

UPDATE – OCT. 5, 2010: I received a message from an acquaintance telling me that Mr. Glover had been warned on the use of the email addresses more than once and he was fired for their use for his personal business. I contacted The Holding a Hammer website and received a response from his partner and co-writer of the song, Kyle Hill.

Here is the message:

Toni,
The message you received from your acquaintance is the explanation the school district is using to justify Bryan’s firing. It is false.

Bryan did not “access” a list of parent/student emails. He was given that list by the school administration. Why did they give him that list? So that he could contact those parents about sports training he was offering during the summer. In other words, the school gave him the email list for the express purpose of using it to conduct his personal business.

Bryan was never warned to not use the email list. In fact, we have an email from school personnel letting the parents know that Bryan would be contacting them to offer his personal training services.

I met with the principal of the school within 2 hours of Bryan’s firing, both because I was a cowriter of the song and I have a son who plays on the football team. The principal told me Bryan was fired because he sent out an email that was objectionable and politically incorrect. The next day she met with another parent and told them that Bryan had distributed material that was “derogatory to our President.”

I met with the general counsel for the Williamson County School District and told him this story. He said he would be investigating this issue, but as it turned out, he only used the information from my interview and interviews with other parents to formulate a response that would protect the school district.

Your acquaintance has no personal knowledge of this incident. I am left to wonder why they are willing to speak as if they do.

If you have any more questions, I would be happy to answer them.

Lincoln’s Conditions for a Challenger Debate

Rep. Lincoln Davis(D-TN4) held a Townhall in Lawrenceburg,TN on Wednesday for an hour. I will give him points for holding these townhalls through his district this past week. One of the first questions asked of Davis was if he’d consent to participating in a debate with his challenger after the August 5th primary results have produced a Republican challenger for the 4th District Congressional seat.

His response was less than genuine and I think condescending because we all know from his answer that he has no intention of participating in a debate for the people of the 4th District. His condition was the challenger had to go out in the district to talk with the people, answering ad hoc questions so that person gets to know the district like he knows it. I guess 4 or 5 months of campaigning, answering questions put forth at campaign stops doesn’t constitute ‘getting to know’ the people of ‘his’ district.

This is my first foray into taking videos so I’m learning. Add to that some strong southern drawls and you need to listen close to understand some of the audio.

Rep Pete Stark (D-CA) – Rude and Crude

Here’s a compilation of things said and done by another Democrat behaving very badly. He’s been in the Congress for decades and Californians just keep re-electing him. Glenn Beck had this video on his program today and The Washington Times put the video up.

Thanks to Glenn Beck for putting this video together. Think it shows a pattern of disdain for Stark’s constituents? Much? I wonder how the old media types would play this if this was a Republican legislator acting this way? We already know the answer to that question.

An Obama Supporter – “Your Higher Taxes Pay For My Healthcare”

It’s almost too stereotypical to believe. If this woman isn’t doing a parody it’s just too apt a description of the Obama zombie. She’s got to be wearing a wig and everything she does is like a parody. I just don’t know whether to believe her. I’m wondering if maybe she isn’t related to the woman in Detroit waiting in line to pick up her Obama money!
