Obama Going After Control of Commercial and Recreational Fishing by Executive Fiat
As if Obama and the Democrat takeover of the US Healthcare industry isn’t enough, Obama’s bureaucrats are going after FISHING!!!! He’s got the leftwing enviro groups like World Wildlife Fund(WWF), Greenpeace, Defenders of Wildlife, Pew Environment Group……what’s not to worry about? All that is being considered with this panel of government bureaucrats and leftwing environMENTAL activists is concern for animals. There’s no analysis for economic impact included.
This will affect ALL waterways in the US.
From ESPN: Culled out – Obama administration will accept no more public input for federal fishery strategy
The Obama administration will accept no more public input for a federal strategy that could prohibit U.S. citizens from fishing the nation’s oceans, coastal areas, Great Lakes, and even inland waters.
This announcement comes at the time when the situation supposedly still is “fluid” and the Interagency Ocean Policy Task Force still hasn’t issued its final report on zoning uses of these waters.
That’s a disappointment, but not really a surprise for fishing industry insiders who have negotiated for months with officials at the Council on Environmental Quality and bureaucrats on the task force. These angling advocates have come to suspect that public input into the process was a charade from the beginning.
Guess Obama is just ticking off his list of leftwing groups who supported his campaign.

The Akaka Bill – breaking Hawaii into 2 states
Or you could call it a race based government for benefits.
Gail Heriot and Peter Kirsanow in the WSJ Online give some depth and history behind this break up for Hawaii:
The protection of these benefits is what motivates supporters of the Akaka bill. Ten years ago, the Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional a Hawaiian law that limited the right to vote for those who oversee OHA to ethnic Hawaiians. The court ruled in that case, Rice v. Cayetano, that it violated the 15th Amendment’s prohibition on racial discrimination in voting rights.
Rice set off a firestorm that has not yet subsided. If OHA’s election methods were unconstitutional, then its racially-exclusive benefits were almost certainly also in violation of the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause. Something had to be done.
And it was. Shortly after Rice, Hawaii’s Democratic Sen. Daniel Akaka introduced a bill in Congress to protect race-based benefits in his state. He did so by seeking to exploit a 1974 Supreme Court decision, Morton v. Mancari. In that case, the court found that racial discrimination on the basis of membership in “quasi-sovereign tribal entities” was constitutional. Following the logic of the ruling, Mr. Akaka and others hoped that by transforming ethnic Hawaiians from a race into a tribe they would effectively protect special benefits for ethnic Hawaiians.
I’m not really understanding how this bill could even be constitutional since 94.3% of Hawaiians voted in favor of statehood back in 1959. But nevermind silly little details like that to get in the way of special treatment for specific groups of people.

More Junk Statistics Crippling Maine Fishing Industry
Instead of having adults running regulatory agencies we’ve got environMENTAL activists making decisions based on junk data modeling. You don’t have to like herring or lobster to be alarmed by more radicalism coming from governmental agencies. Fish are more important than people. Activists don’t care about American jobs.
From Slublog at Hot Air – The Ripple Effects of Federal Action: A Case Study
Herring is not overfished, or subject to overfishing, but the New England Fishery Management Council’s Science and Statistical Committee has identified a troubling “retrospective pattern” in runs of a computer model used to profile the stock.
Erring on the side of caution, the committee has decided to advise reducing the maximum catch next year from 145,000 metric tons to 90,000 metric tons.
The degree of unreliability in the retrospective pattern was considered to range between 17 and 37 percent. But the committee rounded up to a 40 percent cut in the “acceptable biological catch,” a scientific calculation of the sustainable harvest level used to set the upper level of the total allowable catch.

The Safe Babies Act of 2009 (S.1554 H.R.3474)
The Progressives always come up with these feel good names of bills to completely buffalo you to the bills true intentions. This bill sounds like the “UN Convention on the Rights of The Child”.
From Andie Brownlow at Pajamas Media:
Just in case you decided to give parenthood a shot, you may be interested in some new legislation on the horizon. The Safe Babies Act of 2009 (S.1554 and H.R. 3474), in conjunction with S. 678, is designed to promote judicial activism and create the establishment of a national authority for all court cases involving “maltreated” children 3 and under. There’s nothing like a rigged courtroom to make parents feel all warm and tingly inside.
Upon the bill’s passage, the director of the National Institute of Justice, in cooperation with the Department of Health and Human Services, will award a five-year, twenty-five million dollar grant to a national early childhood development organization. For an unnamed entity, its full description in the bill is suspiciously specific.
The grant recipient will work with an agency from the Department of Justice to form the “National Court Teams Resources Center.” This center is tasked with recruiting “local court teams” consisting of judges and social service workers in all parts of the U.S. The center will “develop materials to guide qualified judges in the decision making process regarding maltreated infants and toddlers, and to train members of local Court Teams and others in the community regarding the appropriate care of maltreated infants and toddlers.”
A commenter tells about how things are in the UK with the UN Conventions:
There are bills to have the state “model” correct parenting and make home visits. There’s the UN Convention on the Rights of The Child, which requires parents to negociate with their children; this treaty has been used to have judges undo curfews and punishments of parents. In Britain parents can’t give their children a kiss good-bye at school, can’t enter their children’s schools without a criminal background check, can’t carpool other children, can’t baby-sit unless they get government permission; There are many families required to live with cameras in their homes to make them do as the gov’t says in rearing their children. It will be like that here soon if we don’t oppose this madenss. Please see attached article from the UK Daily Mail:

Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Rep Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) are the creators of this parental rights take away.

Progressive Insurance. Besides annoying ads, look at the Chairman and former CEO Peter B. Lewis
With so many Americans suddenly waking up to the deep tentacles of the ‘progressive’ left, I think a little background on Peter B. Lewis is in order.
This thought came to mind when I had a spam comment on a posting I’d done back in 2005:
The new Howard Hughes? – PittsburghLIVE.com
Link from Lucianne.
I found this very interesting. Most political junkies are familiar with George Soros. But how many have ever even heard of this man? I hadn’t.
Peter B. Lewis – Chairman of Progressive Corp, the 3rd largest automobile insurer. Lewis is worth an estimated $1.6 Billion.
Donations to leftwing 527 Groups by big money for the 2004 Election!
Lewis – $22.9 Million
Joint Victory Committee-$16M ( this group combined the 3 largest 527s to defeat George W. Bush)
America Coming Together(ACT) – $3M (AFL-CIO,Sierra Club & pro-abortion Emily’s List)
MoveOn.Org – $2.5M
George Soros – $23.5 Million
Stephen Bing – $13.9 MillionLewis is an addicted Marijuana Smoker. He’s an advocate for the legalization of marijuana, not just for medical marijuana.
In 2000, Lewis made the kind of news uncommon among billionaires: He was arrested after customs agents found 1.7 ounces of marijuana and 2 ounces of hashish in his luggage at a New Zealand airport. He later admitted to three charges of importing drugs. He also freely admitted that he was a regular marijuana smoker. The charges were dropped when the insurance magnate agreed to make a donation to a drug rehabilitation center. This incident may have helped to raise Lewis’ political consciousness, as they say. A year later he became the largest single donor to the American Civil Liberties Union. Significantly, there were minor “strings attached” to his $7 million gift — namely, that $5 million be earmarked for the ACLU’s drug-policy litigation project, which challenges laws on drug testing in schools and on the medicinal use of marijuana.
In 2003, Lewis’ foundation, the Place Fund, gave 4,122 shares of Progressive Corp. stock valued at $293,432 to the Marijuana Policy Project and 665 shares of the stock valued at $49,965 to the Drug Policy Foundation of Washington.
In 2002 Progressive shares valued at about $199,000 went to the Marijuana Policy Project and 6,633 shares of Progressive valued at $998,598 went to the Drug Policy Alliance. The Tides Foundation, a major funder of leftist causes, also received 6,633 shares of Progressive stock.
Just in case you carry Progressive Insurance you might want to rethink that policy. You premiums support radical left wing organizations and the communistic ACLU.
For those that think marijuana is a harmless drug habit think again. A recent segment on the local news talked about the percentage levels of THC in marijuana. Back in the 70’s and 80’s the THC level was at 2%. Today, those percentages are between 6% and 13%. The average was not given. Even at 6% this is triple the strength from the 70’s and 80’s. Very addictive and harmful levels.
Here’s another reason for you conservatives out there to cancel your Progressive Insurance policy, aside from Progressive’s really annoying advertisements.

Soros continues drive to control the votes by taking control of Secretary of State offices
The Democrats best friend George Soros and Peter Lewis (Progressive Insurance) have been so successful at stealing elections they’re going to see what other states they can pollute with their voter fraud electoral victories.
We saw Minnesota become the last victim with the Al Franken victory in 2008.
Soros Eyes Secretaries from Matthew Vadum at The American Spectator.
A group backed by Soros is gearing up to steal the 2012 election for President Obama and congressional Democrats by installing left-wing Democrats as secretaries of state across the nation. From such posts, secretaries of state can help tilt the electoral playing field.
This is, of course, the same Soros, the same hyperpolitical left-wing philanthropist who makes no secret of his intention to destroy capitalism.
snip….The vehicle for this planned hijacking of democracy is a below-the-radar non-federal “527″ group called the Secretary of State Project. The entity can accept unlimited financial contributions and doesn’t have to disclose them publicly until well after the election.
It was revealed during a panel discussion at the Democratic Party’s convention last year that the Democracy Alliance, a financial clearinghouse created by Soros and Progressive insurance magnate Peter B. Lewis, approved the Secretary of State Project as a grantee.
snip…At the top of the SoS Project’s slate of candidates for state-level secretary of state positions in 2010 is Minnesota’s radically left-wing Mark Ritchie, a former community organizer whose cavalier attitude toward electoral fraud and whose shamelessly partisan conduct during the recount process cleared the way for Al Franken to steal last year’s U.S. Senate election from then-Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.). Ritchie was first elected Minnesota secretary of state in 2006. Franken and Obama, by the way, were endorsed last year by ACORN Votes, ACORN’s federal political action committee.

Turkey Gentrification (now this is one big gobbler)
Most of the turkeys had disappeared from Brookline, MA so of course the do gooders (Audubon Society) had to get involved. The revitalization of the turkey population has been such a success that the turkeys have come to enjoy suburban living.

A wild turkey strolled along a sidewalk on Beacon Street in Brookline. The birds can grow to weigh roughly 20 pounds and stand 4 feet tall. (Globe Staff Photo / Mark Wilson)
BROOKLINE – On a recent afternoon, Kettly Jean-Felix parked her car on Beacon Street in Brookline, fed the parking meter, wheeled around to go to the optician and came face to face with a wild turkey.
The turkey eyed Jean-Felix. Jean-Felix eyed the turkey. It gobbled. She gasped. Then the turkey proceeded to follow the Dorchester woman over the Green Line train tracks, across the street, through traffic, and all the way down the block, pecking at her backside as she went.
“This is so scary,” Jean-Felix said, finally taking refuge inside Cambridge Eye Doctors in Brookline’s bustling Washington Square. “I cannot explain it.”
Notify the neighbors: The turkeys are spreading through suburbia. Wild turkeys, once eliminated in Massachusetts, are flourishing from Plymouth to Concord and – to the surprise of some wildlife officials – making forays into densely populated suburban and urban areas, including parts of Boston, Cambridge and, most recently, Brookline.
snip….Efforts to revitalize the state’s turkey population between 1911 and 1967 failed. Then, in 1972 and 1973, the state Division of Fisheries and Wildlife released 37 turkeys in the Berkshires. These turkeys survived and bred. And between 1979 and 1996, wildlife officials trapped more than 500 turkeys in the Berkshires and released them elsewhere in the state.
Biologists were pleased; today’s turkey population in Massachusetts lingers around 20,000. But Marion Larson, an information and education biologist at MassWildlife, said officials had not counted on the turkey’s appetite for suburban – and even urban – living.
snip….The problem, according to some Brookline residents, is that the turkeys can be aggressive at times. Dr. Ruth Smith, an internist from New York City, was staying with a cousin in Brookline a couple of weeks ago when she was stalked by what she describes as a 3-foot-tall turkey.
“He came at me and, at first, I tried to shoo him away,” Smith recalled. “I figured I’d just go ‘Shoo!’ and he’d go. But he was very aggressive.”
If you didn’t know this turkeys aren’t exactly bright bulbs. Depending on the time of year, there are flocks of turkeys grazing along the roadside of my country road. More often than not when I’m driving along and encounter turkeys crossing the road the stupid birds stop crossing and run down the road in front of the vehicle. After a few honks of the horn they will finally drift off to the side of the road. Probably the left side of the road, you know cause they’re alot like Dhimmicrats. They strut along aimlessly displaying their plumage.

Exposing the ‘Green’ Scam (not that exposure will matter since it’s about MONEY)
Yes, last week proves once again the fraudulent claims of the global warming alarmists. Hackers dumped a bunch of info from a key UK global warming advocacy university (Univ of East Anglia Climate Research). Stories of dummied up temperature numbers, blocking of any research refuting their claims, ignoring the decrease in temperatures, deleting of data they don’t like since it doesn’t fit their agenda and just plain hiding data.
Will this stop any of the morons from believing in ‘climate change’ or global warming? Never. Just like government run healthcare, this is all about power, control and money. The truth will not set you free. Especially when the US has weak minded Representatives and Senators who give credence to global warming. Yes, I’m talking to you Sen. John McCain, Sen. Lindsey Graham, Gov Tim Pawlenty, Sen. Bob Corker, Sen Lamar Alexander, former Speaker Newt Gingrich and the list goes on.
From Ed Morrisissey at Hot Air – Do hacked e-mails show global-warming fraud?
One of the most damning e-mails published comes from Dr. Jones himself. In an e-mail from almost exactly ten years ago, Jones appears to discuss a method of overlaying data of temperature declines with repetitive, false data of higher temperatures:
snip….Andrew Bolt points to a couple of other suspicious entries in the database as well for the Herald-Sun. For instance, here we have scientists discussing how to delete inconvenient data in order to emphasize other data that supports their conclusions:
snip….Hmmm. Sounds like “hid[ing] the data” once again. And here we have them privately admitting that they can’t find the global warming that they’ve been predicting:
Redstate also has The Great Global Warming Fraud.. There are some of the same people who are global warming alarmists who were ice age alarmists back in the 1970’s, just think they are still making money off of fraudulent climate scams yet call themselves ’scientists’ and ‘researchers’ at prominent universities. Just shows you the idiots in those ivory towers of supposed education.

Government Healthcare Innovation is how to cut corners
Considering Obamacare has nothing to do with creating better healthcare and everything to do with garnering control and power, what will happen to innovation in medicine once the US goes down the rabbit hole of government healthcare?
From Philip Klein at AMSPECBLOG – The Threat to Medical Innovation (h/t Redstate)
Raymond Raad, a resident in psychiatry at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical Center and co-author of a new Cato study, presented evidence showing that the United States leads the world in the development of drugs, medical devices, and other advanced treatments. For instance, between 1969 and 2008, 57 of the 97 Nobel Prizes in medicine and physiology — or nearly 60 percent — were awarded to people who did their research in the U.S., and nine of the top 10 medical innovations between 1975 and 2000 were developed here. But these achievements aren’t reflected in rankings of different health care systems that typically show the U.S. faring poorly and provide fodder to those pushing for government-run health care. This even though once these products are developed in the U.S., they become widely available and improve health care outcomes around the world.
As one commenter said:
I was in the UK three years ago and accompanied a colleague to a medical laboratory. The nurses there were still using glass vials to draw blood into. The only thing innovative there are ways to cut corners on health care quality to save a penny.
This is what we in the US have to look forward to!
