While Social Security gets no COLA raise, Congress today will increase their budget by 5.8%

It just gets no clearer than this, elected representatives of American taxpayers have no connection with reality. This increase in their spending on themselves is the clearest example of dis-associative behavior.

From Politico:

Under a House-Senate conference measure, approved by the House last week and poised for passage in the Senate on Wednesday, spending for the legislative branch will increase 5.8 percent this year, boosting Capitol Hill’s annual budget to $4.7 billion.

The measure includes a hodgepodge of new funding for lawmakers: a $500,000 pilot program for senators to send out postcards about their town hall meetings, $30,000 for receptions for foreign dignitaries and $4 million for consultants — with Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) getting up to nine each and Senate President Pro Tempore Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) getting up to three more.

There’s $15.8 million for salaries for the Senate Appropriations Committee — plus an extra $950,000 for the committee’s administrative expenses.

snip…..House Republicans protested the move, with 162 Republicans — including the subcommittee’s ranking member, Alabama Rep. Robert Aderholt — last week voting against the bill last week, which was sent to the Senate on a 217-190 vote.

But the increase in funding has otherwise largely been a bipartisan affair. The Senate Appropriations Committee — where McConnell and 29 other appropriators sit — voted 30-0 in June to send the bill to the full Senate, which approved the bill in July by a 67-25 vote.

The truth is Wyden-Bennett is a backdoor takeover by the Congress of the entire insurance marketplace. The result would lead to a complete nationalization of our healthcare system. It may well be the bill Obama and members of the United States Congress have intended to legislate all along.

Wyden-Bennett is the most overreaching and dangerous threat to our liberties of any of the bills in existence.

The Healthy Americans Act is the plan former Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy endorsed from the very beginning of the healthcare debate. Candidate Senator Hillary Clinton, said she would sign this bill if she was elected president. Interesting endorsements for a supposedly free-market plan!

Under Wyden-Bennett, the insurance market is 100% regulated by the federal government. This plan mandates Congressional approval of all insurance plans including the premiums the insurance companies may charge. The government will approve or disapprove insurance claims.

snip…Make no mistake, the private plan you enjoy now will be gone. The standard benefits package will be the BlueCross/BlueShield Plan in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program (FEHBP). This plan is designed for older, financially secure federal employees. The average 2009 family premium is $13,440 per year.

Under federal mandate all Americans will be forced to buy the FEHBP as their minimum allowable coverage. The ability of the insurance company to offer any lesser coverage will be gone — the needs and wants of the individual will no longer be taken into consideration. The young healthy individual, with a lower salary and little need for extensive benefits, will be forced to purchase the same policy, at the same premium, as an older life-long smoker or diabetic. In effect he will be subsidizing their care. Many young Obama supporters are going to be very unhappy with this plan.

Michael F. Cannon, Director of the Health Policy Studies at the CATO Institute, states that 30-50% of Americans will be forced to pay more than they need or want for healthcare in order to subsidize others. Often those others may be people that have chosen unhealthy lifestyles.

The penalty for failure to comply will be the average monthly premium plus 15% for each uncovered month.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) will expand further into our personal lives. The premium will be taken out of paychecks, thus removing any transparency from the system and diminishing the consumer’s ability to make responsible choices. The IRS will be in charge of all collections, disbursements and the garnishing of wages for penalties. Checks for claims, payments for hospitals, clinics and healthcare providers will be written by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and administered through the sham insurance carriers. The IRS may collect the money for fines out of your bank account.

While the Democrat thugs in the House of Representatives are trying to engineer our lives back to the 1800’s with Cap and Trade they are looking at renovating the House Parking Garage to a tune of $156,322 per Congresstwit. All you ever hear about Washington DC is the ‘wonderful’ subway system there (Metro). In fact, when I was there at the end of April the Metro’s tickets STILL had the picture of Obama on the back of the ticket. Funny, I don’t remember President Bush’s picture ever being on the back of the ticket in 8 years of his Presidency.

Why do any of these legislators need a vehicle in D.C.?

Renovating Private Parking Garages for U.S. House Will Cost Taxpayers $156,322 Per Congressman

Washington (CNSNews.com) – As it is considering legislation that would cap carbon emssions and significanly increase energy prices of U.S. consumers in the name of controlling global warming, the U.S. House of Representatives is also considering spending $68 million to renovate two parking garages that are used exclusively by members of Congress and their staff.

Given that there are only 435 members of the House, the renovation of these exclusive garages would cost $156,322 per congressmen.

Wasn’t it this garage where Charlie Rangel illegally stored a vehicle for a number of years?

Dems want to add Vehicle Mileage Tax (VMT) along with Gas Tax

According to Rep Oberstar (D-MN) the VMT is inevitable. He believes the tax could be implemented within a couple years. Oberstar is the House Transportation Chair.  VMT would be a personal invasion demanding the installation of a GPS tracking device in each vehicle so Big Brother can track your every step. Not only that but think of the additional cost to each of us. But don’t worry, Obama and the Dhimmis are going to cut your taxes. Obama promised to cut taxes for every American earning less than $250,000 annually.

Top lawmaker wants mileage-based tax on vehicles (AP)

The tax would entail equipping vehicles with GPS technology to determine how many miles a car has been driven and whether on interstate highways or secondary roads. The devices would also calculate the amount of tax owed.

“At this point there are a lot of things that are under consideration and there is also a strong need to find revenue,” Oberstar spokesman Jim Berard said. “A vehicle miles-traveled tax is a logical complement, and perhaps a future replacement, for fuel taxes.”

That last phrase is hilarious don’t you think? When has government EVER eliminated a tax?

AIG Bailout Nothing More Than a Conduit to Bailout International Banks

The WSJ published an article last weekend which details a little bit more on the so-called AIG bailout where in reality AIG is nothing more than a conduit to both foreign and domestic banks. So far that sum given to “AIG” is $173 billion since last September.

shines some light on this article and unless you have a subscription service to WSJ you will only get the first couple paragraphs. This article also pretty much explains why the Treasury and Federal Reserve have been so closed on any information. Wouldn’t surprise me if TARP has the same implications since Congress totally abdicated their job to Paulson and now Geithner. What Congress did is actually worse, they gave total power to the Secretary of the Treasury. Even though most Republicans also voted for this massive failure, the responsibility is on the heads of Pelosi and Reid. Idiots. All of them.

The Journal has been able to identify several of the recipient banks, in addition to Goldman Sachs and Deutsche Bank — Merrill Lynch, Barclays, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Morgan Stanley, Wachovia, Bank of America, Lloyds, Banco Santander, Societie Generale, and several others. In other words, several of the world’s largest banking institutions.

The article raises the question as to why American taxpayers — factory workers, school teachers, small business owners — are being asked to bail out international banks whose executives received extravagant bonuses in years one, two, and three for decisions that banrupted their institutions in year four? The answer given by the Treasury and the Fed is that the banks, unless they are paid, will collapse like falling dominoes and thereby bring down the entire financial system with them. This appears more and more to be an exaggerated proposition as the crisis intensifies while the bailouts accumulate. There is also the question as to why the public cannot be told who is receiving checks courtesy of the taxpayers.

snip….When the history of this crisis is written, we may well conclude that the the bailouts were a mistake — that from the beginning the architects badly underestimated how much trouble the banks were in, that they prolonged the crisis by throwing good money after bad, that they rewarded the people responsible for it, and established a terrible precedent requiring ever more bailouts of auto companies, state and local governments, insolvent mortgage holders, and still others until we exhausted our resources on bad debts and had little left over to make provision for the future.

I remember arguing vehemently against TARP and the AIG bailout at varying times last September and  October with supposed financial experts, real estate and mortgage professionals and was always told I was just wrong and didn’t understand the true situation. When you believe in the US Constitution and free markets none of that matters. To think that AIG may be given additional funds to siphon off to more global banking institutions makes me want to blow up something, it’ll probably be my head exploding from anger.

State’s Rights

Considering the over reach of the Democrat Congress and the Obami many states are looking to remind the Federal Government the sovereignty of individual states. The latest egregious example is the ‘punish S.C. Governor Mark Sanford Amendment’ to the just passed Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (stimuless bill). This amendment is meant to force any governors who might not want partake in the Generational Theft Act by the Dhimmicrats. In January the Dhimmicrats and the Obami reauthorized and expanded the SCHIP program which will be a burden for states with more unfunded mandates.

It’s an obvious end-run around the authority of South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, the outspoken GOP fiscal conservative who has staunchly opposed the behemoth federal package.

Read it:

SEC. 1607. (a) CERTIFICATION BY GOVERNOR — Not later than 45 days after the date of enactment of this Act, for funds provided to any State or agency thereof, the Governor of the State shall certify that: 1) the State request and use funds provided by this Act , and; 2) funds be used to create jobs and promote economic growth.

(b) ACCEPTANCE BY STATE LEGISLATURE — If funds provided to any State in any division of this Act are not accepted for use by the Governor, then acceptance by the State legislature, by means of the adoption of a concurrent resolution, shall be sufficient to provide funding to such State.

A number of states are looking to reclaim the 10th Amendment of the Bill of Rights.

Most folks these days don’t know that’s in the Constitution—but then, to all intents and purposes, our government doesn’t either. (The same is true of the Ninth Amendment, which declares, “The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.�)

Now, however, we have the first sign in a very long time that that might be about to change. If Congress won’t recognize the proper sphere of sovereignty of the states, some of the states are thinking about standing up to claim it for themselves. States with bills on the books (From RS Comments):

You may not have heard much about it, but there’s a quiet movement afoot to reassert state sovereignty and stop the uncontrolled expansion of federal government power. Almost half of the state legislatures are currently considering or have representatives preparing to introduce resolutions to reassert the principles of the 9th and 10th Amendments and the idea that federal power is strictly limited to specific areas detailed in the Constitution and that all other governmental authority rests with the states.

snip…..The text of the bill proposed in Arizona makes the clearest statement of the intent to block unfunded mandates:

“That this Resolution serves as notice and demand to the federal government, as our agent, to cease and desist, effective immediately, mandates that are beyond the scope of these constitutionally delegated powers.�

and

“That all compulsory federal legislation that directs states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties or sanctions or requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding be prohibited or repealed.


What this movement is most similar to is the Nullification Crisis of 1832 where the State of South Carolina asserted that it had the right to nullify the authority of federal laws within its borders. In this case the states are not asserting anything as broad as the Doctrine of Nullification, but are merely reasserting the limits which the 10th Amendment places on federal authority, specifically as it applies to spending, the idea being that they don’t have to pay for federal mandates if their legislators choose not to.

Congress is even over reaching into local government policing through the Dept of Homeland Security (from Free Republic/NYT):

Members of Congress asked the Justice and Homeland Security Departments on Friday to investigate accusations that the sheriff who presides over the Phoenix metropolitan area has engaged in a pattern of racial profiling and other abuses against Latino residents.

Four members of the House Judiciary Committee, including the chairman, John Conyers Jr., Democrat of Michigan, raised of concerns about the sheriff, Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County.

Sheriff Arpaio, a publicity magnet who is a hero to those who campaign against illegal immigration and a pariah to immigration advocates, brushed off the requests as political high jinks.

To many Dhimmicrats enforcing laws is racist. Members of the committee who think they should also be governing local government are Chairman John Conyers (MI), Zoe Lofgren (CA), Jerrold Nadler (NY) and Robert Scott (VA). These crack whores of Congress who are addicted to power think arresting criminals and jailing them is racist!

Guess these states better not wait too long though, the Dhimmicrats have already plunged the country into socialism and I figure we are at about stage 6 (out of 10). Their addiction to power has overwhelmed them and they know there’s still a whole year left for them to centralize the government and plunge the country into a decade long depression.

DOH Secretary Napolitano thinks Canada is the greatest threat

On January 16th, 2009 Michael Hayden told reporters about the threat from Mexico, that it could be a greater threat than Iraq or even Iran.

In its latest report anticipating possible global security risks, the U.S. Joint Forces Command lumps Mexico and Pakistan together as being at risk of a “rapid and sudden collapse.”

“The Mexican possibility may seem less likely, but the government, its politicians, police and judicial infrastructure are all under sustained assault and pressure by criminal gangs and drug cartels,” the command said in the report published Nov. 25.

“How that internal conflict turns out over the next several years will have a major impact on the stability of the Mexican state.”

Retiring CIA chief Michael Hayden told reporters on Friday that that Mexico could rank alongside Iran as a challenge for Obama — perhaps a greater problem than Iraq.

The U.S. Justice Department said last month that Mexican gangs are the “biggest organized crime threat to the United States.” National security adviser Stephen Hadley said last week that the worsening violence threatens Mexico’s very democracy.

So, on January 26th, what did the incoming Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano identify as her priority? The Canadian border!

Vulnerabilities along the Canadian border are one of more than a half-dozen priorities identified by Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano during her first week, along with cybersecurity and ensuring that federal officials are properly communicating with state and local officials.

“The northern border of the United States has become, since 9/11, important to our national security,” Miss Napolitano wrote in an action directive issued Friday.

“As we have designed programs to afford greater protection against unlawful entry, members of Congress and homeland security experts have called for increased attention to the Canadian border,” the directive said.

Meanwhile, there’s a drug war in Mexico which is and has been overflowing into the United States for quite some time now. Meanwhile, there’s this report from yesterday.

Violence in Mexico, mostly related to the trade in illegal drugs, is spiraling out of control. Even worse, it is increasingly apparent that the drug-traffickers are winning their fight against the Mexican government.

snip…The cartels have also thoroughly penetrated Mexico’s government institutions even the agencies that are supposed to be dedicated to battling traffickers. In recent weeks, prosecutors charged top officials in the Attorney General’s office with being informers for the drug organizations. They allegedly received payments of $150,000 to $450,000 per month for information regarding surveillance targets and potential raids. Those sums are more than even high-level law enforcement personnel can make in several years and lower-level personnel can make in several decades. With such resources at their disposal, and with the U.S. and global demand for illegal drugs remaining robust, it is no wonder that the cartels are winning.

I wonder how long it is going to take before American troops are deployed to our southern border to protect Americans against the invasion of Mexican drug cartels and criminals? For every supposed ‘good’ illegal alien from Mexico, how many criminals are also allowed into our country? Where is MADD on the culture of drinking and driving with illegal Mexicans? Where’s NOW on illegal Mexicans raping, running prostitution rings and kidnapping young girls to be sold? Where’s the US Congress on protecting Americans? Where’s the Obami on protecting Americans? I know President Bush was awol on this subject. I don’t want another 4 years to pass. If Mexico does disintegrate into a state of disorder (which it pretty much is today), Mexican refugees will be pouring even faster into our country (which they pretty much are doing already).

US troops should be protecting our borders and they should be armed as if in a war zone.

Obama and Democrats killing the Small Business Engine

The engine of the economy that generally pulls the county out of a slump is being battered and abused by the Obama Administration and the Democrat controlled House and Senate. With unemployment rising, tax hikes and regulation are going to kill the business engine where growth in employment usually moves the quickest. But not in this climate by this administration or Congress.

The ability to start a small business and grow it into a much larger enterprise is the greatest wealth creation opportunity in America. Studies have shown that 2/3 of all millionaires are small business owners. Entrepreneurs and their children and grandchildren make up almost the entire Forbes 400 list of richest Americans.

If small businesses are the economic engine that creates jobs, builds wealth, and makes the American dream possible, then naturally our new president plans to support and rely upon them and give them everything they need to pull us out of the economic slump, right? Well, no.

snip……Instead, American small businesses face not only tax increases on individual income, dividend income, and capital gains as the 2003 tax cuts expire, but new environmental fees and regulations, health care “pay or playâ€? mandates, and a significant expansion of new “rightsâ€? for workers that may well include compulsory unionization. The entrepreneurs we are counting on for future economic growth have only higher expenses and reduced flexibility and opportunities to look forward to.

Just read some of the comments made by small business owners to this article and you will see how new job creation isn’t going to come from the small business sector. Government can’t create jobs (as much as they seem to arrogantly proclaim otherwise).  If they do create jobs, they are ‘government’ jobs which is nothing more than redistribution of taxpayer income. Government jobs create nothing, they are a consumer of taxpayer dollars.

I will not place my small business in the position where the local, state and federal government will get a dime more than I absolutely have to pay. I’m a small businessman (one emplyee, me) and I’m hunkering down. I don’t plan on expanding anytime soon, and I do plan on doing small projects, accepting lots of cash payments, and hiding my slim profits the best I can for the next few years.

The fear in the small business community of which I am part is palpable. My partner and I decided not to try to ride out the slowdown this time around and sell our business while husbanding our cash because we see the writing on the wall. The most ironic thing is that the least skilled employees (who voted for Obama) will not be retained by the new management. They might as well have just quit their jobs as to vote the way they did since the effect will be exactly the same.

Frankly, the overriding emotion amongst small business guys is that we are tired of putting up with the government’s crap and we don’t want any part of a country where the government picks the winners and losers by fiat through taxes, regulations and handouts. There is no point in starting your own business if the government is going to run it. I don’t plan to contribute to a country that is what the US is becoming when I can live off what I have. That won’t really help my daughter but given the fact the government will just take most of what I make while I am living and then the rest of it when I die I have absolutely no incentive to put money away for her when it costs me time I could spend with her instead.

Anyone who thinks this economy is going to be turned around by shoving Socialist policies down taxpaying American throats is delusional. Since the Obami so likes to compare himself to FDR and the Dhimmicrats are so in love with FDR style socialist programs they can also expect to see a decade long recession. What pulled FDR’s economy out of depression was WWII. Not a pretty thought to have to endure another world war!

TARP going to these robber barons?

When are the Dhimmicrats going to hold the Treasury Dept accountable for the funds paid out to these banking institutions? It is the Dhimmis who control both branches of the Legislature! They passed the bill for these TARP funds, they should be held responsible for how the funds are being spent. To the Dhimmis this is just play money, after all it’s only taxpayer debt. A billion here, a billion there, the Dhimmis don’t seem to care.

Formerly of Goldman Sachs, he was feted just months ago for securing the sale of Merrill Lynch to Bank of America, just as Lehman Brothers crumbled into dust. BofA even paid a 70 per cent premium. Some deal. Some salvation.

It now emerges that Mr Thain brought forward about $4bn in discretionary bonuses, paying them out in the narrow window after the sale of Merrill was agreed but days before the deal was actually closed.

This wheeze went down just as Merrill headed into record $21.5bn operating losses in the fourth quarter and BofA started seeking additional taxpayers’ funds from the troubled asset relief programme to digest its acquisition.

These bonuses, moreover, came in a year when Merrill’s total operating loss was $41.2bn. Bonuses equivalent to 10 per cent of the profits would be excessive, but 10 per cent of the losses? Furthermore, reports that Mr Thain spent $1.22m doing up his office, including $1,400 on a parchment rubbish bin, after his arrival at Merrill last year will serve to feed popular perceptions that the greed and insensitivity of investment bankers knows few limits.

Whether or not the bonuses were legal – and it seems they were – outside the parallel universe of investment bankers they are seen as looting. Bankers played a very big part in setting fire to the world economy – and reaped large rewards for their recklessness. They are being supported with public money because the economy cannot work without banks, not because bankers should be a protected species.

Let’s give these whores another $350 Billion. How much of this is filtered to the Dhimmicrat campaign donations, including the Obami’s campaign?
