What Do Americans Know About Their Government?

PEW’s most recent poll on “What the Public Knows” is confirming for me but not surprising. Republicans are more informed than Democrats yet on the whole, Americans are uniformed unless it comes to popular culture or ‘Hollyweird’.

Public Knowledge: Senate Legislative Process a Mystery to Many

The public has consistently expressed strong interest in the health care debate, but relatively few Americans can correctly answer two key questions related to the Senate’s consideration of health care legislation.

In the latest installment of the Pew Research Center’s News IQ Quiz, just 32% know that the Senate passed its version of the legislation without a single Republican vote. And, in what proved to be the most difficult question on the quiz, only about a quarter (26%) knows that it takes 60 votes to break a filibuster1 in the Senate and force a vote on a bill. The survey was conducted before Massachusetts Republican Scott Brown won a special election to the Senate on Jan. 19; Brown’s election means Senate Democrats can no longer count on a 60-vote majority once he takes office.

snip…Republicans More Knowledgeable on Many Issues
Republicans, on average, answered one more question correctly than Democrats (5.9 vs. 4.9 correct). These differences are partly a reflection of the demographics of the two groups; Republicans tend to be older, well educated and male, which are characteristics associated with political and economic knowledge. Still, even when these factors are held constant, Republicans do somewhat better than Democrats on the knowledge quiz.

There’s more unsurprising results when looking at the knowledge gap with young vs. older Americans.

This is almost laughable……Republican Leaders Forming New Political Group

These ‘insiders’ think they are going to attract tea partiers and the grass roots. What these yahoos fail to realize is that most tea partiers are Conservatives and that’s why they left the GOP. So, here’s a group of RINO’s who think the answer is to be Democrat light or as Glenn Beck likes to call them as the Republican Progressives.

From the WSJ Online – Republican Leaders Forming New Political Group

At least half a dozen leaders of the Republican Party have joined forces to create a new political group with the goal of organizing grass-roots support and raising funds ahead of the 2010 midterm elections, according to people familiar with the effort.

The organizational details of the group, expected to be called the American Action Network, are still being worked out, but it is expected to contain both a 501(c)3 and a 501(c)4 component. In simpler terms, a 501(c)3 can advocate on policy matters while a 501(c)4 is an election arm.

Republican leaders expected to be affiliated with the group include former Minnesota Sen. Norm Coleman, former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former Bush adviser Karl Rove, Republican strategist Ed Gillespie, and Republican donor Fred Malek.

This will also go no where with the grass roots. All this will do is pull the large dollar donors from the RNC, RNSC and RNCC since most of the Tea Partiers and grass roots have stopped donating to any of these groups. These people are so stuck on their own narrative they don’t have a clue what is driving the grass roots.

“Our leaders will be our zookeepers, fairly distributing services and goods”

The title of this post is a quote from Perspectives of a Russian Immigrant (No. 5). She paints a picture not unlike “Animal Farm” by George Orwell.

The control of mediocrity over talent is the defining structure of these societies. There are political rules. If you conform, then you are living among equals. If you break the rules, then you suffer. If you are part of the ideological machine, you are a beneficiary of the system. That is why there are former citizens who have fond memories of the USSR.

Ms. Kunin then writes about the American Zoo.

Such ideological oppression is insidious, and we increasingly find it in America. Already, American parents are forced to send their children to failing schools. Americans will soon find the same to be true of their medical care. Political correctness limits their speech and corrupts their actions, as was on display in the Fort Hood attack.

How can correctness be political? If it is political, then it is an agenda.

UN World Health Organization’s new global money grab plans

The UN never gives up on their greed to tax globally so they will have billions of dollars at their disposal without transparency since you do know that the UN audits itself. Slick, the UN and the US Treasurer and the Federal Reserve are able to operate outside the scope of an external audit.

The UN’s dangerous plan for global taxation

The leaked December 23, 2009 Executive Board report of The WHO’s Expert Working Group on Research and Development Financing cites a number of ideas for global taxes that could be imposed on UN member states that “could potentially raise very significant amounts of revenue”:
• A 10% tax on the arms trade, which might net about US$5 billion per annum
• A digital tax or “bit” tax: internet traffic is huge and likely to increase rapidly; this tax could yield tens of billions of US dollars from a broad base of users
• Brazil’s financial transaction tax: a tax on bank account transactions, set at 0.38% levied on paying bills online and major withdrawals, it was raising an estimated US $20 billion per year and funding some 87% of the Government’s key social protection programme, Bolsa Familia, before it was voted down.

By the way, they’re calling the digital or ‘bit’ tax an ‘indirect consumer tax’!

ABC is finally investigating religious extremists…..

Of course they are not on the trail of any Islamic extremists, only Christian Bible passages. Brian Ross, that tippy toppy investigative reporter found a code on rifle sights supplied to the military which references a Bible passage. Oh my, can’t get anything by Brian Ross unless of course it would be let’s say a radical Islamist.

U.S. Military Weapons Inscribed With Secret ‘Jesus’ Bible Codes

At the end of the serial number on Trijicon’s ACOG gun sight, you can read “JN8:12″, a reference to…(ABC News)

Trijicon confirmed to ABCNews.com that it adds the biblical codes to the sights sold to the U.S. military. Tom Munson, director of sales and marketing for Trijicon, which is based in Wixom, Michigan, said the inscriptions “have always been there” and said there was nothing wrong or illegal with adding them. Munson said the issue was being raised by a group that is “not Christian.” The company has said the practice began under its founder, Glyn Bindon, a devout Christian from South Africa who was killed in a 2003 plane crash.

I’m sure there will be multiple Congressional hearings called on this since it’s fair game to go after anything Christian.

How do you feel about taking your 401k and investing in US Treasury Bonds?

Not so good? Well, this is one of the schemes Obama is planning. Forcing you to convert your 401k investment into annuities having the government as the annuity salesman. It’s bad enough that the likes of Rep. Barney Frank forced banks into the CRA using Janet Reno holding a sledgehammer over lending institutions heads. Then protecting Fannie and Freddie into insolvency so the US Taxpayers have to give unlimited funds to cover the CRA mess Barney and his Democrat cronies created. It was so great that Barney was able to blame the banks and Bush for the housing bubble collapse, can’t wait to see how Barney manages this conversion.

From All American Blogger we read about the plan detailed in Business Week.

But what you won’t read in the Business Week article is this from Will Collier of Pajamas Media:

As noted later in the article, “Seven in 10 U.S. households would object to a requirement that retirees convert part of their savings into annuities,” and the “why” of that opinion isn’t that hard to figure out: they’re a bad deal for everybody except the guys selling them. Consumer gurus like Clark Howard have been warning people away from high-commission “guaranteed” annuities for years. I bet everyone reading this knows of somebody who’s been ripped off by an annuity salesman.

But now … now the government would be the annuity salesman – except that if the administration gets its wish, there won’t be any “selling,” you’ll just be forced to take the money you’ve earned and “convert” it to a construct that they’ll allow you to “invest” in. No more of this willy-nilly mutual fund nonsense for you plebeians; we’ll tell you how you’re going to pay for things, so hand over the cash – it’s your patriotic duty!

It would be plenty bad enough if the “guaranteed” government annuities were limited to bailed-out insurers like AIG. But Karl Denninger of The Market Ticker took a deeper look and found an even scarier outcome. Denninger believes this is really a scheme to prop up the market for Treasury bonds by forcing citizens to “invest” in them.

As Denninger points out, “Forcing people into Treasuries as an ‘annuity’ is exactly what Social Security allegedly is. Except that Treasury stole the money that was collected in FICA taxes and spent it!”

Another Ponzi Scheme from the Democrats to rape and pillage the US Taxpayer.

In Honor of Harry Reid – “Barack The Magic Negro” from Al Sharpton

Rush just played his song on his show in honor of Harry Reid. Because this is a parody of Al Sharpton singing the song it’s just perfect. I heard Sharpton on Fox yesterday defending Harry Reid, they don’t call him Sharpton the Shyster for nothing!
