The First Debate
We made a huge mistake last night. Normally I just watch election debates at home but last night was different. We had a small party to attend, it was a group of county Republicans. We could have stayed to watch the debate on a large screen tv but one of my friends wanted to attend a gathering put together by the Music Row for McCain/Palin group. Oy! Big mistake. It was at a sports bar somewhere around Vanderbilt. Most of the people there were Young Republicans but it was impossible to hear the tv. One tv had closed captioning on and that’s how we had to follow the dialogue. We happened to be sitting right under this tv so a recliner would have been nice.
Watching the debate in this format make it difficult to follow, if you were watching facial expressions etc then you missed responses. What struck me more than anything else was how agitated, childish and rude Barack Hussein Obama acted. Since when in these debates do candidates interrupt each other. Obama at some points looked rattled and angry. His continuous motioning to the moderator while grimacing showed his lack of grace and experience.
Did Obama have a thick layer of makeup on, there was something with his ‘look’ that was off.
Here’s a balanced review of the debate I think from Jed Babbin at Human Events.
McCain finished strongly, his passion for the military flaring when Obama talked about veterans not being able to get adequate medical care. McCain said, “I know the veterans. I know them well. And I know that they know that I’ll take care of them. And I’ve been proud of their support and their recognition of my service to the veterans. And I love them. And I’ll take care of them. And they know that I’ll take care of them. And that’s going to be my job.”
Obama scored several points on McCain in the economic segments, tying him to the Bush spending spree which McCain voted for again and again. McCain’s points were made in the foreign policy segments, and in his attacks on Obama’s inexperience and lack of understanding of the world. Call this one a narrow victory for McCain.
