Things Heating up on “The Hill” in Nashville

Filed under: Taxes, Tennessee Related Topics — Toni @ 8:23 am

Looks like the taxers are at it again. Their endless greed to steal your hard earned money and control our lives always roils up at this time of year.

Today is the Senate Transportation Committee meeting on Toll Roads (LP 12 - 3:30pm)

Terry Frank tells us about a tax increase on coal which means an increase cost to us for energy. There’s also the news that Rep. Philip Pinion (he’s the Tn State Rep who REALLY likes toll roads, so much so that he’s involved with the toll road lobbyist) is not running for re-election. Don’t worry though, he’s got plenty of income, like his investment in an ethanol plant. I’m sure he had no control over any tax funding for ethanol.

Bill Hobbs lets us know that Phil and his loyal droolers want to tax bottles of beverages, see they are drooling at the thought of all those tax revenues flowing into their pockets. (Senate Bill 1408 - thank you Senator Doug Jackson-D and Senator Randy McNally-R) . Can’t you just wait to have a bottle deposit hassle in our lives!

Stacy Campfield lets us know how revenue projections are down again…..but let’s give Gov Phil more money for his bunker or maybe to mandate pre-Kinder attendence. That won’t cost much but it’s a good reason to increase all sorts of taxes.

Here’s the schedule for todays Senate committee meetings in Legislative Plaza Rm 12
:00 am Judiciary
9:00 am Education
11:00 am General Welfare
1:00 pm Government Operations
2:30 pm Environment, Conservation & Tourism
3:30 pm Transportation

Just in case you are interested enough in how your taxes and lives are controlled by our state legislators here’s where you can find the schedule:

Go to http://www.legislature.state.tn.us/
On the left sidebar click on Senate, then click on Video Streaming, then click on Senate Schedule or Joint Schedule. The same schedule can be found for the House by clicking on the House on the left sidebar.

  1. Hope you are planning to attend the FairTax Rally in Nashville on Saturday! It starts at Riverfront Park at 1430 and from there to the state capitol building.
