Blue Angels to perform in Tennessee

I am so looking forward to this event. I’ve always wanted to see the Blue Angels and on April 12th & 13th they will be performing at the Smyrna Air Show. I’ve never been to an air show so I’m a real newbie at this. I thought I’d post the information on this in case others in this area had not heard that the Blue Angels were going to be here.  If you have any suggestions or tips on attending one of these air shows let me know.

The Great Tennessee Air Show 2008, a two-day aviation entertainment spectacular will be April 12-13 at the Smyrna Airport . The public can expect two days of family-oriented top military and civilian aerobatic performances, ground displays of aircraft and equipment from all armed services, as well as displays by local police, fire and EMS providers. Guests will be treated to a special appearance by the world famous U.S. Navy Blue Angels each day of the show. It is their first appearance here since 1999.

“We are very pleased to host the Blue Angels for this event which will be their only appearance in Tennessee in 2008, said John Black, executive director, Smyrna/Rutherford County Airport Authority. “

Danny Clisham will serve as Master of Ceremonies, fresh from his recent induction into the Air Show Hall of Fame. In addition to the U.S. Navy Blue Angels, the list of featured aerial and ground performers includes Cheryl Stearns, the world’s greatest female parachutist, jumping with the American flag to open the show; John Klatt piloting a Staudacher 300D sponsored by the Air National Guard; The Geico Skytypers in their six-plane, World War II-era SNJ-2 “Texans writing messages across the sky, and Julie Clark in her Chevron T-34 Mentor “Free Spirit sky dancing in an aerial ballet choreographed to patriotic music. The Red Eagles, Dan McClung and Buck Roetman, in their red PPG Eagles, will thrill the crowd flying wingtip-to-wingtip through the sky; Michael Wiskus will be performing in the Lucas Oil Pitts Special; and former U.S. World Aerobatic Team member Matt Chapman, sponsored by Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, will soar in his Cap 580, one of the few in existence.

Funny how you find neat stuff in your own back yard. Found your site thru a link from “This Goes To 11″ (the Ted Kennedy one), and I see you have a post on the upcoming air show (which I didn’t know about). I’ve been to the Smyrna Air Show a few times. You’ll want to take sunscreen for sure, sun glasses, binoculars, a quilt or blanket to sit on.

They used to have this show in September. I’ve been watching for this show to come back since they canceled the one after 9/11 (maybe they have had it since then; they don’t exactly advertise all that much). Hope you enjoy it.
