Democrat Moderated GOP Debate in Iowa

Filed under: Politics, 2008 Election — Toni @ 3:03 pm

I watched some of the debate (at least in between phone calls). Because the moderator is from the local Des Moines rag the whole debate was geared towards what’s important to Dhimmicrats, not Republicans or Conservatives. So, once again, Republicans were treated to a debate which addressed Democrat concerns but not Republican concerns.

The subject of Iraq and illegal immigration was not to be a focus of the debate. Guess Republican Iowan’s don’t think Iraq or illegal immigration is an important aspect for the Republican candidate???? So, good old Huckster got a HUGE pass for this debate. Let’s call it the Golden Ticket awarded by the Des Moines Register.

All in all, I loved that Fred Thompson refused to raise in hand on the man-made global warming - How many of you believe global climate change is a serious threat and caused by human activity? Yay Fred!

Fred also shone when talking about the problem with education with his response that the NEA is the problem.

For me, the rest of the debate was boring, hohum, yawn. Oh, except for Alan Keyes annoying the hell out of the moderator. She deserved it for including him in the debate. Payback is a b*tch isn’t it. Way to go Alan.

  2. Huckabee has really overplayed his hand as far as his little jabs at Romney (what ever happened to Reagan’s 11th commandment?).

And I actually like Alan Keyes a lot, but he has a tendency to shoot himself in the foot. He often comes off as a single-issue candidate (abortion, which I oppose, but there are other issues as well) and some years ago he used campaign funds for living expenses, which is indeed legal, but left a bad taste in a lot of peoples’ mouths.

I’m leaning sort of Duncan Hunter/Fred Thompson at this point, though that could change. At least Hunter has some serious airborne military experience under his belt.

  4. These debates are such a joke. I’d have walked off the stage.
