From a Blue Star to Gold Star Mom
This poem was written and posted in the Patriot Guard forum. It needs to be read by all.
I sit at the computer
It is ready to go,
I take a breath,
Do I really want to know?
The emails come upon the screen
And there is the one I wish I had never seen.
DoD Identifies.
Already the tears are hitting my eyes.
I open the message and shed the tears
These are the words that every mother fears.
I open a file,
I make a call.
I will not falter.
I will not fall.
I am the Blue to Gold Liaison today,
I’ll do my duty in every way.
I contact the Guard right away
They are there for me in every way.
The PGR is by my side
The men and women who will always ride
To honor our heroes in a special way
Their help is critical to me today.
The CAO is hard to find
But the PGR they never mind
They find the contact right away
And help the Blue to Gold in every way.
I ordered the Gold Star Banners today
And pray for our troops who are in harms way.
I take a breath,
I shed a tear
I know the presentation will soon be near.
The time has come for me to stand
Other mothers step forward
With banners in hand
We have a job to do today
We have those words we will have to say
I take a breath
I stand real tall
I will not falter
I will not fall
I start to speak
My heart is breaking
I start to cry
This mother is aching
I say the words as we present the Gold Star Banner
I try to do this in an honorable manner
A young serviceman, was laid, to rest today,
He died for me in a land faraway.
The banner is passed to the Gold Star Mother
I hug the dad, the sister and brother.
I know they just want me to go away.
And I, I have no more to say.
The Guard stand at attention
As we file through the door
The American flag waves proudly
A sign of comfort for sure.
I see the tears,
I hear a sigh,
For they know an angel just learnt to fly.
I drive back home,
I cry all the way,
We lost an American hero today.
I sit at my computer
It’s ready to go.
I am the mother you don’t want to know.

The Thunder Run has linked to this post in the – Web Reconnaissance for 11/15/2007 A short recon of what’s out there that might draw your attention, updated throughout the day…so check back often.
Yes, these dedicated riders are the most respected people as we just had my son buried in MN at Ft Snelling Nat’l cemetery.
Of course the weather was not like yours in FL, but they stood guard no matter how cold they must have been feeling.
Our utmost praise for their presence cannot be stated enough as they drew such accaliam from mourners there.
Awesome group of dedicated men to show respect, honor, and safety as we grieved our fallen American HERO..my son John J Tobiason, 42, Hayfield, MN, Nov 28,2007, Baghdad, Iraq.
that poem is so true. I am the Blue to Gold for oklahoma. Thank you so very much for it. I wish to add it to my album if that is ok. I am also a member of the patriot guard riders (awesome group)
May God bless you and your children hope to hear from you
