Officer Murdered by “Texas” Drug Runners near Covington, TN
Y’all know about those Texas drug runners don’t cha? This is what the two Hispanics are being called by Tennessee media who shot and killed Trooper Calvin Jenks during a traffic stop on Saturday night in Tipton County, Tn.
Authorities gave this account of the slaying
- this is from the Tennessean:
Jenks pulled over a rental car with Texas tags outside Covington, near the rural intersection of state highways 14 and 54. When he approached the car, he smelled marijuana and asked the driver to get out.Jenks asked the driver if there were drugs in the vehicle, and the driver hesitantly admitted there were.
The trooper leaned inside the car, and the passenger pulled a gun and shot him twice in the head.
Jenks’ body was dragged in front of the car, then run over as the men fled. He was dead when hunters found him early Sunday.
“I’ve seen the video” from the camera in Jenks’ patrol car, said Mark Gwynn, director of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation. “It’s a senseless, brutal murder.”
Two arrested at hotel
Investigators found what they believe is Jenks’ flashlight in a garbage can at a Wal-Mart in Brownsville, 13 miles east of the scene of the shooting. Jenks apparently dropped the light in the car when he was shot.
The Commercial-Appeal in Memphis reported that the car was found in Brownsville.
TBI agents and Metro police arrested Alejandro Guana, 17, and Orlando Garcia, 19, both from Texas, on Sunday at the Best Western hotel near Music Row in Nashville, Gwynn said.
I’m sure these two “Texas” drugrunners wouldn’t be illegals or illegal smuggling drugs from Mexico. right?
Let’s see how the Memphis Commercial Appeal writes this:
Police were holding two suspected Texas drug traffickers Sunday in the slaying of Tennessee State Trooper Calvin Jenks, 24, of Memphis, whose body was found lying beside his cruiser on a rural Tipton County road. The two suspects, Alejandro Guana, 17, and Orlando Garcia, 19, were arrested in Nashville and were being transferred to Tipton County Sunday night. They are expected to be charged today.
Since these two have been arrested, wonder if the Nashville Police (who by the way now have access to the DHS system to confirm if these two are legal residents, citizens or illegal aliens) know if they are legal or illegal?
Here is Trooper Calvin E. Jenks – he was 24 years old.

Update 6pm: This morning as I was driving to Chattanooga for the funeral of Sgt. John Michael Sullivan I was listening to Kevin Miller on WTN (99.7). Kevin had a spokeswoman from TBI talking about the murder and the apprehended suspects. Kevin inquired about the legal status of the suspects and the TBI spokeswoman stated that these two males were legal residents. Okayyy.
So, as I was returning from Chattanooga late this afternoon, I was listening to Phil Valentine on WTN (99.7) and he said according to his sources and information the legal status of the two suspects was still unknown at this time. In addition, none of the suspects had a drivers license. Hmmm. Phil also opined that this could be a situation of 2nd generation Mexicans. But we don’t know this yet. I’m wondering how the TBI spokewoman could so emphatically have stated they were legal if it was questionable. Apparently Texas law enforcement is working to establish the legal status of the two suspects.
Update Wed. 01/10/07: After searching to see if there had been any news on establishing the legal status of the two suspects I emailed Phil Valentine to see if he had any new information.
His response was: “Nobody will say”. Phil opined on his show as to what this could mean. Maybe one of the suspects could be legal and one illegal? We don’t know as of yet and nobody is talking. I would think if both of these suspects were legal they would be stating this emphatically. If they were legal why would it be so time consuming to validate their legal status? Hmmmm?

i knew alehandro and he was a good boy it’s jus he was stuck in the wrong situation which made him react unusall i still dont think that he is a bad person because he is not a killer!!! i think it’s jus somethin that happend, but were all humans and we all make mistakes
First of all nay nay – you need to learn English. For such a “good” boy Alejandro committed an especially brutal murder. And you say he’s not a killer? He’s not a bad person? No, most humans don’t brutally murder a law enforcement officer or any other human. This wasn’t just something that happened and you are excusing egregious actions. You are a part of this problem for making excuses for a brutal murderer.
okay well i have none alejandro for about 2 years now and i honestly think he didnt do it on purpose he paniced and i am on his side 99.9 percent. and thats final put yourself in his position. then tell say what you think
Victoria and nay nay….you guys are so ridiculous!!! This ignorant “wanna be” thug committed a brutal murder and you want to take up for him?? You guys must have some serious issues yourself. I don’t know what goes on there in Texas but here in Tennessee we don’t just ride the streets and kill law enforcement officers over some petty little drugs that they could have served a little time for, “accidently”!!! Come on…..GET A LIFE!!!!
