Wins and Losses
Yup - it was a disaster for the House and the Senate is hanging on by their fingernails. Not only does Tennessee need to fix the trainwreck called voting but there are many states out there with the same condition. What exactly is so difficult about this?
In Tennessee my guy for Governor lost - Jim Bryson. I knew this was a long shot (or a never shot) but I still supported Jim because I believe in him and know him to be an ethical man who would have done something with illegal immigration, the spending cap and ethics in the Tennessee legislature. BUT my guy for SD23 (Jack Johnson) won very handily over a vicious and cutthroat trial attorney by the name of Mary Parker. Seeya Mary and don’t come back. Knowing I wasn’t a major supporter of Bob Corker I still wanted him to win because I didn’t want an entrenched Ford family in the Senate in D.C. I was also happy to see some of the people Gov. Bredeson endorsed lost around our state including the income tax man Bob Rochelle. I was happy to see Amendment 1 overwhelmingly win so the state won’t have to go through any machinations by the same sex marriage proponents. For any you Conservatives or Republicans who voted for Bredeson over Bryson you’d better hope the re-elected Governor comes through on his campaign promises to DO something about illegal aliens and doesn’t go after an increase in the state gas tax or attempts to institute a state property tax. Don’t expect any movement on ethical issues because Bredeson doesn’t believe TN has any problems in this regard.
I do hope the National Republican Party and Republicans in office take note that Conservatives are the reason they lost the House, with a slim hope for the which Senate which is still hanging in limbo. Go ahead and ignore the illegal alien issue, give illegals amnesty, build that Superhighway, keep spending and the Party will go down in a bonfire in 2008. Don’t believe the dominent media who keeps blaming this loss on the war in Iraq for their losses.
My greatest concern with Pelosi and gang in charge will be our troops. I don’t believe Pelosi will overtly cut and run in Iraq. What will happen is a defunding of the military, they will use the same tactics they used for Vietnam which is appropriate afterall since most of the Dems have never moved beyond Vietnam.
My hope is the Republicans will revert to the tenets of the party which is smaller government, security and protection of our borders. Course this means the Bush and Rove domestic policies cannot prevail.
If nothing else, having Pelosi and gang in charge will provide a never ending number of stories to post about in the blog world of citizen journalism.
There are a couple of things which I personally will never forget. One is The Tennessean’s claim that I’m am racist because I didn’t vote for Harold Ford Jr. The second is John F. Kerry’s statement/joke calling our troops stupid and ignorant and then The Tennessean’s complicity in backing up Kerry’s despicable statement.
