Is Harold Ford Jr. Pro-Business?

Filed under: Politics, Tennessee Related Topics, 2006 Election — Toni @ 8:44 am

Usually Conservatives are pro-business since we would rather see the market do for us than government do for us.  That’s why Democrats and Liberals always use Pro-Business as a negative, they think the expansion of government is a good thing.  Harold Ford Jr. has been promoting himself as a Conservative Democrat.  His voting record belies a different story though according to the National Association of Manufacturers online voting record.

Harold Ford Jr. received an overall 43% rating from NAM’s Official 109th Congress Voting Record (House).

Ford NAM Voting Record 109 Congress

Even Lincoln Davis (79%) from my district has a higher rating from NAM than Harold Ford Jr.

Let’s see a few of the nae votes from Harold which NAM considers unfriendly to manufacturers:

12 109-1 449: H.R.5, On Passage Medical Liability Reform (H.R. 5) Vote on H.R. 5, legislation to help make health coverage more affordable for millions of Americans by reducing the additional cost that all forms of medical liability litigation adds to health coverage costs. Approved 230-194 on July 28, 2005 (Roll No. 449). The NAM has long championed medical liability reform because of the downstream consequences for higher health care costs from unlimited damage awards, liability insurance, and defensive medicine. NAM POSITION: Yes.
13 109-1 519: H.R.3893, On Passage Bolstering Energy Supplies and Refinery Capacity (H.R. 3893) Vote on H.R. 3893, legislation that would help increase refinery capacity and assure delivery of much needed energy supplies throughout the country. Approved 212-210 on Oct. 7, 2005 (Roll No. 519). The NAM supported the bill, noting that it would address fuel supply shortages caused by federal permitting and other policies. NAM POSITION: Yes.
19 109-2 209: H.R.5429, On Passage Energy Exploration in ANWR (H.R. 5429). Vote on legislation that would permit the leasing of portions of ANWR for exploration of oil and natural gas. The NAM has long supported repealing the prohibition of environmentally-sensitive exploration of ANWR. Approved 225-201 on May 25, 2006 (Roll No. 209). NAM Position: Yes.

So Harold voted against Medical Liability Reform, energy exploration and increasing refinery capacity.  Gives him alot of credibility considering his political commercials talking about gas prices!

H/T to Redstate for the the NAM link.
