Unconventional Warfare and Homicide
WaPo has this extensive story on “few troops tried for killing civilians in Iraq”. What is omitted in the story is the unconventional component of the enemy. When the enemy doesn’t wear a uniform, tries to blend in with non-combatants there is a stress level which I don’t believe any of us who aren’t there can imagine.
The story by the WaPo actually is a decent story but how can these writers put this together without ever mentioning this point baffles me. Asymetrical warfare changes the whole game and if the dominent media can’t recognize this then they have no credibility.
The media are the problem, not the solution. Look at the appalling reporting in Lebanon, the reporting was manipulated and staged by Hezbollah and Reuters was complicit in Hezbollah attaining it’s propaganda goal. Who can trust the media’s war reporting?
If I was a Soldier in one of those conflicts and I saw a reporter I’d probably turn my back on a reporter if they had approached me.
