The Insidiousness of Multiculturalism
Minnesota (and specifically the Twin Cities) has a large Somali population. There have been numerous violent situations which have occurred in the past years. What usually happens is the Somali Judge Advocate gets involved and screams police brutality and racism.
Both Somali and Hmong groups in the Twin Cities have moved little in the direction of assimilation into the community. Both have cultures which butt heads with the local culture. For the Somali’s it’s only been a little over a decade for their arrival but the Hmong have lived in St. Paul since the 1970’s and little has changed. Except for the gang activity.
This is an especially violent and brutal act by a Somali manĀ against a Somali woman.
It was a vicious attack that St. Paul police say a man inflicted on his 25-year-old girlfriend. The assault destroyed one of her eyes and may have damaged her brain.

Ahmed was arrested Tuesday after his cousin called 911 to report that Ahmed had admitting beating up his girlfriend, the criminal complaint said. Police who responded to the apartment found the woman, whom they have not identified, unconscious and covered in blood. She had been slashed repeatedly on the face and in the genital area, the complaint said.
From Susan Gaertner (Ramsey County Attorney) we hear that the Hmong have progressed since the 80’s and 90’s.
But Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner said the criminal justice system cannot ignore the unique challenges facing immigrant women.
“There are cultural issues related to the patriarchal nature of many of the immigrant communities,” Gaertner said. “I remember back to the 1980s and the 1990s dealing with the Hmong community. Domestic violence was felt to be a family matter that would be handled by the male elders, and the criminal justice system was not to be involved.”
The Hmong community has made great progress, but now other communities, like the Somalis, face similar issues, she said.
Golligee Susan, I wonder if the local law enforcement officers would agree with you on that there claim. I doubt it from some of the stories I’ve heard from a family member who’s a local LEO. Ms. Gaertner is following the model of political correctness for her Democratic ambitions.

Somalia is a traditionally clan based culture. It would be interesting to see which clans have established themselves there. The only question I have is whether they practice Sharia under the radarscope of the community. Given the makeup of a clan/tribal based culture no one outside the tribe will ever know.

You come to this country, you submit to our laws, period. That’s something that the US makes clear to military and government personnel who go overseas (especially ever since that punk who got caned in Indonesia for vandalism). It was made clear to us constantly that violate a European law, you’re subject to European justice. And we were damn near beaten over the head with the fact that driving in Europe was a priviledge–not a right, for Americans.
Come to the US. That’s fine. But you MUST obey our laws, and claiming some tribal right to brutally attack each other just doesn’t cut it.
I’m especially baffled that a woman sees fit to excuse mysogeny. But then again, she probably excuses them as some dumbass people that she’d never actually deign to become involved with. That’s somebody else’s problem. Here only desire is to make a name for herself.
