The story about Audra Schmierer’s SSN being stolen and used by at least 81 illegal aliens emphasizes the disaster this theft creates for those who have had their identity stolen.  But the Senate thinks this isn’t a major issue since they are willing to forgive millions of illegal aliens for this felony theft, not only are they willing to forgive this felony but they want to reward those committing the felony.  Illegals who have worked in this country would be able to receive credit toward Social Security benefits for income earned using a fraudulent SSN.

When you have dozens of people using the same SSN how exactly is it that the Social Security Administration is supposed to assign the correct contributions to SS by person.  Disregarding this defiance of logic, the more interesting point from Schmierer’s case was something I heard on G. Gordon Liddy’s radio program yesterday when Audra Schmierer was interviewed by Liddy.  Turns out not one of the 81 illegals using her SSN paid any Social Security taxes.  So, what we are continually being told by our bloviating Senators about how illegals are saving SSI is garbage, not that I ever believed them. 

Here’s what you have to look forward to if an illegal alien steals your SSN.  The Social Security Administration will do nothing to correct the issue, they don’t try to stop these illegals from using your SSN.  They don’t contact or even allow ICE access to the records.  For Schmierer, Social Security just zeroed out her SS account!!  So, she has no records any longer of having contributed to SSI.  Schmierer has to trust the Social Security Administration to recreate her history of SSI payments.  Yeah, I’m sure that’ll happen!  {snicker snicker}

Of course that isn’t all that has happened to Schmierer.  She no longer can travel out of the country since her SSN is considered invalid and she will be detained upon re-entry.  She’s even loathe to try air travel since that references her SSN for identity verification. 

Schmierer also has problems with the IRS:

Schmierer realized she had a problem in February 2005, when she got a statement from the IRS saying she owed $15,813 in back taxes _ even though she had not worked since her son was born in 2000.

Schmierer has done a little investigating of her own, combing through tax bills sent to her for names and locations of employers who hired people using her number.

She has also obtained more than 200 W-2 and 1099 tax forms that contained her Social Security number but different names. Schmierer provided copies of the records to The Associated Press.

People used her Social Security number from Florida to Washington state, at construction sites, fast-food restaurants and even major high-tech companies. Some opened bank accounts using the number.

Here’s my question to our Senators: Why is it when an illegal alien uses a stolen SSN it isn’t a felony crime but when an American citizen uses a stolen SSN it’s a felony crime?
