Color Me Shocked - Look See What Senator Frist is Going to Do on Border Security
Who even knew there was a “Rule 14″ which allows Frist to bypass the committee process to go directly to the floor for a vote. Why haven’t we seen this used before? Frist intends to basically strip Sen. Spector’s Immigration Reform bill of the Guest Worker Program (you know, the Gold Card program) to deal with border security specifically. Frist wants to begin debate by March 27th. What I found interesting was Sen. Brownback’s (he’s repeatedly talked about as a 2008 Presidential candidate) response:
During this morning’s Judiciary Committee meeting, Mr. Specter hinted that Mr. Frist would move ahead on his own if the committee didn’t arrive at some consensus. The prospect worried both Democrats and Republicans.
“I think it would be March madness to rush this,” Sen. Sam Brownback, Kansas Republican, said.
So Brownback thinks this would be rushing things huh? How flippin’ long do these do-nothing politicians need? It’s been a major issue for years now, how much more time do they need? Here’s the real issue, Brownback and most Senate politicians would rather bury their heads in the sand about illegal immigration. The lobbyists and special interests are working them real hard to pretend that border security isn’t an issue.
I truly hope that Senator Frist continues with this plan.
Update: 11:15amSpoke too soon on the shock factor. Heard this morning that Senator Frist’s border security plan does not include a real fence, he’s calling it a “virtual” fence! Huh! Lotta good a virtual fence will do.
I strongly urge you to contact Senator Frist to: 1) Find out the details of his plan for border security and 2) to show your support for his initiative to get the ball rolling and forget about the Guest Worker Program until the border security issue has been fixed.

Man, who got into Frist’s pants to get him all motivated and all. It’s like Delay w/o all the lawsuits.

I wish him well, but if this follows the pattern of his previous efforts at leading the Senate, it will have as much chance of surviving as a snowball’s chance in Key West in July. Yahoo is right now reporting progress on Specter’s efforts, and the GOP is, IMO, full of spineless RINOs who are more like moderate Democrats than conservatives. I’m tired of voting for the lesser of evils.

The sticking point has been the guest worker program (excuse me, the amnesty program). Some want it, some don’t. I think it will most assuredly be included now. I don’t like it one bit.
