The Good News & Bad News Story In Baghdad, Iraq
Here’s a returning journalist (Chris Hondros) to Baghdad. What’s the good news? Well, how about the drive from the airport to Baghdad? It’s just a normal drive unlike the drive from a couple years ago. That’s why we don’t hear about it, there’s no bombs going off anymore.
That’s all that happened. No drama. No death. No explosions. That this might seem surprising to average Americans concerns me. We journalists presumably want to convey an accurate sense of place in our work, yet I worry most Americans believe Iraqis spend their whole lives literally cowering in fear in their homes.
It’s good to hear some balance for a change from a journalist reporting from Baghdad.
Beneath the Violence, Baghdad Is Still a Vibrant City
