Bloggers Fight Against the Disinformation War
Here’s a bit of irony with the Washington Post writing about Bill Roggio’s embed with the Marines in Iraq by the Syrian border. It’s great that the WA is promoting Bill’s reporting and even has the links in the online story. I’m wondering if the WA and other dominent media sources understand this is one of the reasons for their declining numbers?
Regardless of the backhanded tone of this story (i.e. the military creating it’s own disinformation campaign), this is still a good promo for both Bill and the Marines. The links will drive additional readers Bill’s way.
Roggio’s arrival in Iraq comes amid what military commanders and analysts say is an increasingly aggressive battle for control over information about the conflict. Scrutiny of what the Pentagon calls information operations heightened late last month, when news reports revealed that the U.S. military was paying Iraqi journalists and news organizations to publish favorable stories written by soldiers, sometimes without disclosing the military’s role in producing them.
