This is the same Governor who opposed AZ's Proposition 200 which requires state government workers to establish legal status prior to the state providing entitlements to applicants. This is the same Governor who appealed to the courts to stop this proposition from becoming law.
Excerpt:
Gov. Janet Napolitano is telling the newly chosen U.S. attorney general to pay Arizona's $118 million bill for housing illegal entrants over the last 18 months - or take the prisoners off the state's hands.
In a letter to Alberto Gon- zales, Napolitano said the Justice Department has all but ignored its obligation under federal law to either take custody of criminals who are not in this country legally or pick up the costs to the state.
That totaled more than $71 million in 2003, Napolitano said, but Arizona got less than $6.9 million.
It may soon get worse: The proposed budget submitted to Congress by President Bush proposes eliminating all payments to all states.
When George Bush was governor of Texas he pulled the same monkey business on the Federal Government.
