I find this pretty darn interesting considering Kofi Anan wrote an editorial in the last couple days about how "relevant" and "needed" the UN was in todays world. As I heard someone say on the radio yesterday, when you have to say how important you are then you are NOT important. The bad news continues to spill out of the UN and the MSM is largely absent from reporting on this. SHAME ON THEM! Seems that Kofi has a bad habit of ignoring problems presented to him until somehow the issue appears to finally be breaking into the MSM. This finally happened (after almost a year of Kofi's knowledge) with Ruud Lubbers (Commissioner of UN Refugee Office). Seems Mr. Lubbers like YOUNG girls. It was the girls fault since she neglected to tell him she was not yet 16 years old. Get that? Sixteen years old, so this old man thinks it perfectly normal for him to be sexually abusing 16 year old girls. And good old Kofi lets him stay on for almost a year. Claudia Rosett has more on the UN and it's Human Rights office in Beijing where fleeing North Koreans are turned away. Read her commentary and weep. How long does this go on? How long does the United States continue to stand by and fund this not only useless organization but harmful and complicit organization in Human Rights abuses.
