Think I'm on overload or maybe it's the winter blues but I just can't seem to get interested in anything in the news this week. But I found this story and thought it was a good non-political human interest story. Soldiers are everyday people just like you and me (except that they might be carrying very big weapons). I am continuously amused by comments from some of what I call "My Soldiers". When I send care packages I'm always thinking of little things that may be either be useful or good entertainment. I have a cadre of acquaintances, friends and family who all give me things to send to my soldiers. Get all sorts of magazines from them, one recent box I sent had a couple of Victoria Secret catalogs I'd gotten from a co-worker. This was to an all male platoon in Afghanistan at an FOB. So in this box I had all sorts of food things which would travel well but what was the hit of the box? The Victoria Secret catalogs! That just puts a smile on my face when I hear things like this. What a hoot that something which has no value and if you've ever ordered anything from VS catalog you know that from then on you'll be getting a new catalog almost every week. But the response makes everything worthwhile plus I get a great warm feeling I've brought some light into a soldiers day.
