Grassroots Activists Take Action Against Senator

(Franklin, TN–April 8, 2009) Conservative Women’s Action Network (CWAN) delivered copies of the U.S. Constitution and George Orwell’s 1984 to Tennessee Republican Senator Lamar Alexander on April 6. The books were accompanied by a letter (see below) expressing the group’s objection to the Senator’s votes during the past seven years, culminating in his yea votes for S-CHIP, Stimulus Bill and the Give Act.
Members of CWAN are frustrated over the Senator’s promises to vote conservatively and his actual voting record that causes increased federal spending and bureaucracy. Spokesperson, Cynthia McClard stated: “We urge Mr. Alexander to remember he is not an island. He is accountable to the people who elected him.”
Dear Senator Alexander,
We are extremely disappointed in many of your votes during the past seven years. We understand your need to compromise, but many of your votes were totally outof line with our Constitution. So, in the spirit of education, we are presenting you with a copy of the Constitution, and trust you will refer to it frequently.
We are also donating a copy of George Orwell¹s 1984. Since you have a penchant for voting on legislation that increases federal bureaucracy and reduces our freedoms, we thought you should reread one man¹s vision of the consequences of your actions.
Sincerely yours,
Conservative Women’s Action Network
